Commissioner Lloyd started a Citizens’ Academy programme as a way of helping local residents play their part in keeping Hertfordshire safe. Community Safety Partnerships, which are groups of statutory organisations that work in their local area to improve community safety, carried out three pilot Citizens’ Academy projects in Broxbourne, Welwyn Hatfield and Dacorum from November 2014 to March 2015.
Building on the learning from these well-received pilot projects, the Commissioner set out his intention to deliver a web-based Citizens’ Crime Prevention Academy in his Police and Crime Plan ‘Everybody’s Business (2015-2020). This new online learning site makes the opportunities of a traditional Citizens’ Academy available to each and every resident of Hertfordshire. It empowers those who enrol to play their part in the fight against crime.
