DDos attacks

text here
text here A distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attack is an attempt to make a network resource or website unavailable to its intended users by using many, often thousands, of systems to flood the targeted system with traffic. Imagine a group of protestors crowding the door to a supermarket to stop shoppers from entering.

Technological changes are fuelling a rise in DDoS attacks across the globe.

Why would someone do this?

  • To attack your reputation.
  • To exploit your loss of service to try to win over your customers.
  • A dislike of your business or industry.
  • To make ransom demands or blackmail you.

How can I protect my business?

  • DDoS attacks require technical knowledge to guard against them. If you think you might become a victim, talk with a cyber protection specialist to help find a solution. The National Cyber Security Centre has a list of certified products and suppliers.
  • Every website owner should talk with their website hosting provider to understand their protection against unusually high volumes of traffic, and can arrange for short-term handling of this kind of incident at a cost. Aim to balance the cost of mitigation against the threat of an attack.
